A New Way Forward for Rhode Island

Throughout this campaign, I've been focused on ways to create jobs in Rhode Island, and my last TV ad really sums it up. We've got to clean up our state and pave a new way forward.

Tomorrow is election day, and I respectfully ask for your vote in this historic race. You can use the homepage of this website to find your voting location.

Get out the vote for Chafee!

It's the last, critical weekend before election day, and we need your help getting out the vote! Come to campaign headquarters on Saturday and Sunday anytime between 9am-7pm to grab yard signs and bumper stickers, make phone calls, get campaign literature, and sign up to work on election day. Groups of canvassers will be meeting here both days at 10am, but feel free to grab literature and go door-to-door in your neighborhood on your own. People who have already signed up to work the polls can come pick up their sign and election day package.

What: Get out the vote for Chafee!
Where: Chafee Campaign Headquarters, 1800 Post Road, Suite #27, Warwick (under Staples, next to liquor store, directions here)
When: Saturday, October 30th and Sunday, October 31st from 9am-7pm

Senator Chafee will be at campaign headquarters to meet you and thank you for your support! He'll speak to supporters on Saturday at around 3pm.

WPRI/Projo debate tonight

As Chafee supporters, we'd like to invite you to the WPRI Channel 12 / Providence Journal Gubernatorial Debate tonight, October 26th, 2010 at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC). The debate will take place between 7pm and 8:30pm - the first hour will be televised, and the last half hour will be broadcast online. Sign up by clicking here.

Please help the Chafee campaign find potholes, broken streetlights, and other community issues so they can be fixed! As part of announcing my new Open Government initiative, I'm asking supporters to take some time this weekend to log issues on SeeClickFix, a free web service that allows citizens to identify, report, and fix non-emergency issues in their neighborhoods. Your mission if you choose to accept it:

1) Register on SeeClickFix.com.

2) Take some time this weekend to put on your Chafee shirts and stickers, and log issues in your neighborhood.

New Poll Shows Chafee Maintaining Lead Over Caprio

I'd like to share the results of a new poll showing me maintaining a 4-point lead over Frank Caprio, 34%-30%.

The consolidated poll, conducted by Alpha Research Associates over six days between September 20 and last Friday, October 8, drew on a sample size of 800 likely registered voters. The 4-point lead revealed in the poll is consistent with a recent Rasmussen poll also showing me slightly ahead of Caprio.

The positive results of these polls show that Rhode Islanders are hearing my message of job creation and rooting out the cronyism and corruption that have damaged our economy. The voters know that they can always trust in my honesty, integrity, and experience.

Although we're encouraged by these poll results, this remains a close race. Now more than ever, I need your help. Frank Caprio has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from special interest groups trying to buy this election. Chafee Encourages Out-Of-Town Voters to Apply for Mail Ballots

I'd like to remind Rhode Islanders that absentee ballot applications are due by 4pm tomorrow, October 12th. If you will be out of town on election day - Tuesday, November 2nd - I encourage you to apply for an absentee ballot. The upcoming elections are critically important to the future of our state, and everyone eligible should have a say in who is chosen to lead Rhode Island. We need to elect a Governor who will create jobs and end cronyism and corruption. It really only takes a few minutes to take part in the democratic process. Following is information from Bruce Landis's article in the Projo:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The deadline for applying for a mail ballot is Tuesday, and voters who will be away from the state or unable to vote in a polling place on election day are eligible to apply.

The one-page application form is posted on the Secretary of State's website, sos.ri.gov.

Voters can also request an application by contacting the secretary of state's office or their local board of canvassers. Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis said in a news release that he has made a priority of making anyone with access to a computer able to download an application day or night.

"Thousands of requests have already been certified," said Mollis. "We expect to receive more than 8,000 by Tuesday's deadline."

He said a voter must ensure that his or her local board of canvassers receives the original signed and completed application by 4 p.m. Tuesday in order to be eligible for a mail ballot.

After Tuesday, voters who find that they will unexpectedly be out-of-town on election day can go to their city or town hall through Nov. 1 and request an emergency ballot.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 2. Voters can also use the secretary of state's website to find their polling place, review a sample ballot, confirm the accuracy of their voter registration information and find contact information for their local board of canvassers.

Frank Caprio, Political Allies Attempting to Buy Election

Frank Caprio is calling on his vast network of State House insiders and Washington D.C. special interest groups to tip the election in his favor. The Providence Journal reported today that Caprio took in nearly half a million dollars this summer from out-of-state lawyers, State House lobbyists, and other Caprio associates and cronies. In addition, the national Democratic Governors Association, a Washington-based political operation aligned with the Caprio machine, is flooding the airwaves with nearly $200,000 in relentless negative attacks.

Rhode Islanders are tired of the insider deals and political machines that have controlled our state for too long. We need independent leadership. We need to end the cycle of cronyism and corruption that have damaged our economy and resulted in 12% unemployment.

I have an honest budget plan to fix our fiscal mess. I have a detailed jobs plan to get our people back to work. I have a long record of supporting education, protecting the environment and insisting on fiscal responsibility. I know that an experienced, honest and independent leader can get our great state moving in the right direction.

Chafee Encourages Unregistered Voters to Register

I'd like to remind Rhode Islanders who are not registered to vote that the deadline to register is this Saturday, October 2nd.
